Principal's Message

Callahan

From the desk of Peter Callahan, Principal:

We had a great start to the school year, and I would like to express my thanks to all our students, teachers and parents for the smooth beginning we enjoyed at PHS.   We are now in the middle of the traditional fall events. For example, our First Semester Conference Night was well attended, and I’d like to thank all the parents and grandparents who came for making it such a successful evening. It is always good to have an opportunity to discuss Perryville High School with you.

October also means Homecoming and Spirit Week.  We have a full slate of events for Homecoming including a Powder Puff football game, a pep rally and football game, and of course the big dance.  Homecoming is an important part of the high school experience, and I hope all of our students participate in as many events as they can.

There are also a number of tests that students take during the early part of the school year.  For example, the PSAT’s are given to all of our tenth graders; the PSAT’s are a preparation for the SAT’s that students generally take in the eleventh and twelfth grades as part of college entrance requirements. The ASVAB test is also given in the fall, and it is provided by the U.S. military. It gives students an idea of the choices they could have if they decide to enter the Armed Forces.  Finally, upperclassmen that still need to pass any of the HSA’s will be given an opportunity to do so in October.

Again, thank you for all your support, and let’s work for continued success at PHS.

Sincerely,

Peter J. Callahan
Principal, Perryville High School
